Who we are:

PEOPLE/ORGANISATION CONCERNED:

Maritime health professionals (Seafarers doctors, Maritime Occupational doctors, Underwater doctors, Ship Doctors, Maritime nurses, Public health inspectors of Italian Port health services  (USMAF), Ships’ public health officers , Medical Centers and underwater hyperbaric units involved in maritime medicine, Telemedical Assistance services , Medical and public health departments of shipping companies , Laboratories and consultant companies/ operators involved in maritime public health/ medicine activities, Port Health Authorities , Shipbuilding companies and operators, Classification societies and professionals, Maritime schools, University centers involved in Maritime medicine/ public health research.

For all it is required one of the following conditions:

A) to be established in Italy or Republic of San Marino or Principality of Monaco.
or B) to be involved in activities on Italian flag Ships.

OUR MISSION:

  • As a Non-Governmental Scientific Organization, we will work in solidarity and advocate for going sea people’s health and healthy sailing.
  • We will work together with other maritime scientific association, international and industrial organizations towards better harmonized maritime health systems.
  • As a scientific organization we will support research and share information to improve maritime medicine and public health.
  • As a professional organization we will offer our members possibilities to gain more expertise in all aspects of maritime medicine, underwater and public health.

OUR VISION:

  • Bring equity in maritime healthcare for all people who go to sea.
  • Harmonize maritime medical/ public health / shipbuilding medical facilities standards and regulations.
  • Improve the practice of maritime medicine both on shore and on board.
  • Support professionals, operators, companies , researchers , university centers. maritime schools that operates in the field.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES:

  • to encourage scientific research in maritime healthcare / public health/occupational medicine/ underwater medicine, /medical facilities onboard;
  • to promote the exchange of scientific data and results of research projects;
  • to provide special and specific knowledge on how to prepare reports and directives in relation to maritime healthcare;
  • to promote the development of high quality maritime medical health care and systems;
  • to provide assistance in the international coordination of initiatives in relation to maritime health care;
  • to promote and facilitate education and training in maritime health care;
  • to cooperate with Italian national government, international organizations, governments, shipping companies and professional bodies including the World Health Organization (WHO), The European Union (EU), the European Center for disease control (ECDC), the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Labor Organization (ILO), the International Transport workers Federation, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and many others.
